Fire Door Survey

A fire door survey is an important part of your business’s passive fire protection. Regular fire door inspections ensures fire safety compliance and less chance of them failing in their purpose should a fire occur on-site.

Fire Door Regulations

Fire doors - passive fire protectionThe Regulatory Reform (Fire Safety) Order 2005 details the legal obligations of a business in providing adequate fire safety measures. It covers the maintenance of fire safety provisions within a building to ensure fire safety. BS 8214 and BS 9999 highlights that routine inspections of fire doors are necessary to maintain fire safety in a building.

Our qualified fire door surveyors ensure that all fire door inspections are carried out with the British Standards and best practice guidelines in mind.

The Importance of Fire Door Surveys

Fire doors are a key part of passive fire protection. By stopping the spread of fire from a room or compartment, it gives building occupants enough time to safely evacuate and buys the fire brigade more time to bring a fire under control.

Why do I need a Fire Door Inspection?

The nature of fire doors means they’re subject to continual use throughout their life and are therefore more susceptible to damage. Damaged fire doors or fire door components can seriously compromise your building’s fire protection.

It’s recommended to have your fire doors surveyed every six months, or for buildings with heavier use such as hotels or hospitals, at least every three months.

What to expect from a Fire Door Survey

Fire DoorEvery fire door within your building will be inspected to determine whether it is compliant or non-compliant with passive fire protection requirements.

A fire door inspection will include:

  • Checking the certification of the fire door
  • Checking the door fully closes automatically and the door closer operates as it should
  • Check the gaps around the door are no more than the maximum allowed
  • Ensure the intumescent seals are intact
  • Check the door hinges and screws are to the specified requirements

Our fully trained fire door inspector will work methodically throughout your building, ensuring all fire doors are fully inspected. Once complete, you will receive a full report detailing the condition of each fire door. It will also detail all areas of non-compliance that need addressing.
