Landlord chooses profit over protecting life

After converting a single property in 16 bedsits, Heather Jackson has pleaded guilty to 12 housing standards offenses at South Sefton Magistrates Court.

During an inspection last December, inspectors found multiple violations of housing standards. Such violations included the fire alarm being deactivated, no gas safety records produced, a fire exit corridor being converted into a kitchen and a fire door locked shut.

After pleading guilty to the offenses, Ms Jackson faces a £55,000 fine and court costs after putting all of the tenants at risk.
